BANK OF WEED SEEDS IN AGROSYSTEMS IN THE BRAZILIAN CERRADO Planta Daninha
CARDOSO,I.S.; SOARES,M.P.; ARAÚJO,V.T.; CABRAL,P.H.R.; JAKELAITIS,A.; MADALÃO,J.C..
ABSTRACT The seed bank is the reserve of viable seeds found in the soil and is related to diversity and abundance of species that make up the weed populations. This study aimed to determine the seed bank in four distinct environments (grazing area, area of vegetables, annual crop area and perennial crop area) in two seasons (rainy and dry season). To determine the seed bank, each environment was divided into four sub-areas of 0.2 hectares, considering that each area was a repetition, totaling 16 experimental units. Samples of 0.8 kg were taken from each area, and each sample was distributed on a plastic tray and allowed to germinate in a greenhouse. The density of the individuals was determined by observing the number of emerging seedlings in the trays,...

Evaluation of production and quality traits in interspecific hybrids of ornamental pepper Horticultura Brasileira
Nascimento,Naysa Flávia F do; Rêgo,Elizanilda R do; Nascimento,Mayana F; Bruckner,Cláudio H; Finger,Fernando L; Rêgo,Mailson M do.
ABSTRACT The cultivation of potted peppers as ornamental plants has increased considerably throughout the planet. In Brazil, this crop is more recent and still lacks cultivars. In order to increase the available variability and obtain new cultivars, the interspecific hybridization is very useful in add a desirable attribute that occurs in one species to another species, resulting in a new cultivar of agronomic interest. The objective of this study was to characterize parents and interspecific hybrids based on 27 quantitative traits and evaluate their genetic diversity by multivariate procedures. Parents of seven pepper genotypes were crossed, and, seven hybrids were generated. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design. Data were...

Medicinal Plants: versatility and concordance of use in the caatinga area, Northeastern Brazil Anais da ABC (AABC)
SANTOS,MARIA O.; RIBEIRO,DAIANY A.; MACÊDO,DELMACIA G. DE; MACÊDO,MÁRCIA J.F.; MACEDO,JULIMERY G.F.; LACERDA,MARIA NATÁLIA S. DE; MACÊDO,MARIA SORAYA; SOUZA,MARTA MARIA A..
Abstract This study aims to investigate the diversity of native medicinal plants in a caatinga area, verifying the versatility of species and concordance of use among the informants, in the Angico de Cima community, in the city of Aurora, Ceará, Brazil. Ethnobotanical data were obtained through semi-structured interviews with key informants, adopting the snowball technique. The Relative Importance (RI) and Consensus Factor among Informants (ICF) were analyzed to indicate the most versatile species with the highest agreement of use, respectively. Within the 35 registered native species, eight presented great versatility, with a RI> 1, standing out Ziziphus joazeiro Mart. (1.86) and Heliotropium indicum (L.) Lehm (1.67). The 60 therapeutic indications...

Perception and use of non-native and invasive flora from Sierras de Córdoba in central Argentina Acta Botanica
Martínez,Gustavo Javier; Manzano-García,Jessica.
ABSTRACT The perception, knowledge and use of non-native and invasive flora by social actors associated with protected areas in central Argentina were analyzed. Contemporary ethnoecology methods were followed. A total of 108 non-native species of botanical interest was documented. An organization of species is proposed according to their Relative Importance, and on an attitude scale in relation to conservation/elimination interest. In the case of invasive species, perceptions on ecology, importance and/or control are discussed based on the profiles of the social actors. The results shed light upon local points of view and nuances of what “non-native” and “invasive” means to the studied rural population. The use spectrum for some of the non-native species...

Relative Importance of Factors Affecting Customer’s Decisions to Buy Pick-Your-Own Versus Preharvested Fruit at North Carolina Farms AgEcon
Carpio, Carlos E.; Wohlgenant, Michael K.; Safley, Charles D..
This study identifies the most important factors affecting customers’ decisions to buy pickyour- own versus prepicked strawberries and muscadine grapes at direct-market operations in North Carolina. The relative importance analysis identified the region of location of the operations and prices as the explanatory variable explaining most of the variation observed in the customer’s decision to choose the type of fruit to purchase. The estimated price elasticities indicate that sales of each type of fruit are very sensitive to prices.

Seed banks in pastures of Central Amazonian Region PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira
Costa, Joanne Régis; Mitja, Danielle; Leal Filho, Niwton.
This study investigated the seed bank of pastures in disturbed areas in Amazonia Central. In four pastures, 20 samples of 15 x 15 cm at 0 to 5 cm depth and six samples in a depths of 5 to 10 and 10 to 30 cm. For counting and seed identification, the seedling emergence method in a green house was used. Significant differences in seed densities were observed among the four pastures, varying from 304 to 6153 seeds per m², at 0 to 5 cm depth, showing high variation among the areas. The number of species varied from 17 to 27 at the superficial layer. The seed banks contained mainly invasive herbs and pioneer species characteristic of disturbed areas. The succession plant which will develop require a longer time interval to present strata shrubs / trees with...
